why the name photopiece?

The first photopiece class began as an experiment in 2001 with youth that were in special education at one of the poorest performing high schools in Los Angeles. Many of the kids weren't involved in any activities, other than..how shall we say it...."the graffiti arts." Most had never picked up a camera.

It was during this class that we learned the term "going 'piecing" which is slang for tagging. We learned that the word was short for "Masterpiece" and we coined the name "photopiece" to represent a new way of creating masterpieces.
